Fixed implant-supported prostheses
What is a fixed implant-supported prosthesis?
A fixed implant-supported prosthesis is a partial or full prosthesis that cannot be removed and is used to replace missing teeth in a compact and discreet manner. Our team excels in this highly specialized procedure, which we can perform using either an All-on-X protocol or a conventional protocol.
All-on-X protocol
The All-on-X (All-on-4) protocol is one of the latest advances in specialized dentistry. Using state-of-the-art equipment, a fixed temporary prosthesis can be fabricated on the same day as surgery. This means that you will have a temporary stable, comfortable, functional and aesthetically pleasing prosthesis while you heal.
Steps of the All-on-X procedure
Your prosthodontist cares about your dental health and well-being. During your initial consultation, they will take the time to understand your needs, assess your condition, answer your questions and determine if you are a good candidate for the All-on-X procedure.
The next step is to take and analyze X-rays, digital impressions and other data to develop a precise and fully personalized treatment plan. A temporary prosthesis will also be made for you to wear immediately after surgery. This temporary prosthesis is fixed, comfortable, fully functional and aesthetically pleasing to wear while you heal.
On the day of surgery, we will extract the teeth (if necessary), place the implants and fit your temporary denture. You will be in good hands with our friendly, experienced team.
Once the implants are stabilized in your jawbone, the prosthodontist can start the confection of your new teeth. Implant-supported prostheses look very natural. You’ll be able to smile with confidence from day one!
Conventional protocol
Depending on your health, lifestyle and bone density, the All-on-X protocol may not be the right option for you. If necessary, your prosthodontist can evaluate the feasibility of a conventional approach.
The conventional protocol for fixed implant-supported prostheses involves implant placement with a 4-8 months healing period During the healing period, you can wear a temporary removable denture. Once you are completely healed, your prosthodontist can start working on your permanent fixed prosthesis. After a few appointments (impressions, fittings, measurements and adjustments), your new prosthesis will be fixed to your implants. The prosthesis will be solid, functional and perfectly contoured to fit your facial structure.
Advantages of fixed implant-supported prostheses
Fixed implant-supported prostheses offer similar aesthetics and functionality as natural teeth.
- Chewing is greatly improved
- The pressure on the gum is eliminated
- The ability to taste food and sense its temperature is enhanced because the prosthesis doesn’t cover the roof of the mouth
- This is an effective solution for patients for whom a removable prosthesis is undesirable
- This solution helps prevent bone loss
